Uscom attends the Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension (APCH) 2019 in Brisbane, Australia

The emerging science of central Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring was the focus of some of the world’s most eminent blood pressure scientists as they participated in the Uscom sponsored satellite meeting of the Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension 2019 in Brisbane on the 24th of November. Various insights and research related to Uscom’s practice leading innovation in hypertension management, the BP+, were discussed. There was agreement that current methods of sub systolic monitoring of advanced BP pulse waves with an upper arm cuff were relatively ineffective and that pulse wave analysis of SupraSystolic measurements and central BP at the heart provided the opportunity to improve the current science.

Prof Alun Hughes delivered the Plenary talk covering an update on wave reflections in the arterial system and showed why this approach, which is used by BP+, is superior to what has been used in the past. Dr. Barry McDonell presented results from work at Cornell University in New York on heart failure patients and reported promising preliminary results when testing Uscom BP+ on these patients.  Dr. Jim Sharman and Niahm Chapman explained the IDEAL study which is setting out to demonstrate the clinical improvements that may be achieved by integrating BP+ measurements into widespread clinical software installations where the digital pressure waveform information will be integrated into guiding patient hypertension management. The objective is for the IDEAL results to lead to national and international roll-out of the software and BP+ devices.
